It’s clear that ChatGPT, Copilot, and other AI tools are going to help us improve our productivity. But it’s essential that we, the users, have a clear mind in order to use them effectively.

In our daily lives, we often face numerous tasks and responsibilities that can overwhelm us and generate stress. Having a clear head is crucial for properly managing our time and improving our productivity. Below, I’ll share why I believe it’s so important to keep a clear mind and how it can help us make the most of our time.

Improves decision-making: When our mind is clear, we can more effectively assess priorities and make informed decisions about how to allocate our time. We can identify the most important tasks and focus on them, allowing us to achieve our goals more efficiently.

Increases concentration: A clear mind allows us to stay focused on our tasks and avoid unnecessary distractions. Better concentration helps us complete our work more quickly and efficiently, freeing up time for other activities or for rest and relaxation.

Reduces stress: Stress can be a major obstacle in time management. When we’re overwhelmed by stress, our cognitive and emotional abilities can be affected, preventing us from tackling our tasks effectively. A clear mind helps us keep stress under control, allowing us to face our responsibilities more calmly and serenely.

Encourages creativity: A clear mind is fertile ground for creativity and innovation. When we’re relaxed and focused, we’re more capable of thinking of creative solutions to problems and coming up with new ways to approach our tasks. This can help us be more productive and improve the quality of our work.

Improves emotional health: Having a clear head is also beneficial for our emotional well-being. When we feel overwhelmed and stressed, we’re more likely to experience anxiety, irritability, and other negative emotional symptoms. Keeping a clear mind allows us to better manage our emotions and maintain a positive attitude, which can improve our overall quality of life.


How to keep a clear head?

These tips come from my personal experience — I practice all of them to varying degrees.

  1. Organize your environment: Keep your workspace clean, tidy, and free of distractions. An organized environment makes it easier to concentrate and reduces stress. A great book on the subject is The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo.

  2. Set priorities: Identify the most important tasks and allocate your time accordingly. This will help you stay focused and make sure you’re working on what truly matters. Remember the video with the rocks and the glass jar?

  3. Practice mindfulness: Meditation and other mindfulness practices can help you keep your mind clear and reduce stress. A lot has been written about mindfulness. A good place to start is Mindfulness for Beginners by Jon Kabat-Zinn.

  4. Exercise regularly: Physical exercise is an excellent way to release tension and keep your mind clear. I try to walk every day for between one hour and an hour and a half — using a treadmill under a standing desk like this one. And yes, I’m walking while writing this article. 😉

  5. Get enough sleep: Lack of sleep can negatively impact our ability to think clearly and concentrate. Make sure to get enough rest to keep your mind fresh and alert. More than the number of hours, the quality of sleep matters. With my Fitbit, I haven’t managed to score above 80 out of 100… 😢

By maintaining a clear and focused mind, we can make more effective decisions, reduce stress, and improve our emotional well-being — all of which allow us to face our responsibilities more efficiently and successfully.
